Baboon Bakari discovers his rival perished in the furnace, but it does little to quell the tension in the troop. Lioness Kali took refuge in a cave, but find herself trapped with her cubs, her sister giving birth. Separated from their pride, without food to eat, and no one to protect them."KIN"As the land rejuvenates, the drama shifts to the river, testing the bonds between kin. Lioness Kali loses one of her cubs in a thrilling hunt, with the young lions finding themselves stranded in a bayou, surrounded by thundering hooves. Chubby baby hippo Mafuta learns to survive in his riverside home, and simply floating is a struggle for the newborn. While crocodile Magamba sees him as prey."DOMINION"When the lions claim their territory, Bakari and his troop are unable to escape until the pride slumbers. Mafuta's mother tries to stop the crocodile from desecrating the corpse of her deceased father, but in the ensuing chaos, Mafuta is swept into the river. Crocodile Mzaha protects her cub, and cheetah Dumu struggles to make friends."PRESSURE"Mafuta is in a crisis, with his boulder claimed by a marauding bull, his mother forced to take him further from the river. Lioness Kali attempts to dig out an aardvark from its burrow, but an unexpected twist arises when other members of the pride join in. With the land drying up, the lake becomes a refuge for the thirsty herds - but as the situation worsens, Bakari leads the baboons in search of better foraging, and Nala and the elephants set off in search of water."RECOVERY"As the drought ends, the land returns to its former beauty, with newborn giraffe Twiga gingerly taking his first steps, attempting to control his long legs as quickly as he can, because Lioness Kali is on the prowl. Another baby joins the herd of elephants, and soon after, the newborn's father appears in an awe-inspiring moment to welcome his son. Mafuta and the other hippos return to the river, only to find the crocodiles have taken over the banks, so the hippos attempt to drive out their nemeses."
